The Firing Blog

A blog to follow what’s going on in my studio… by Patricia C. O’Neill, glass artist by night, entrepreneur by day, and everything else in the between.

A new star is born!

I guess that I am slow at following trends… I am starting my blog today. But what do they say? better later than never… and I am really excited to have a place where to connect with my eBay customers.

What’s with the name? Well… as you may know (if you do not, now is the time to check my about me page ;) ), I am a studio glass artist and my specialty is a process called “kiln-formed glass” or “kiln-fired glass”. Some call it “fused glass” but I do not like it at all. First, the fusing part is only one step of the process. Then, it has been “dumbed down” by so many people…

So, let’s not deviate too much and return to firing. Firing is just the technical term used when we put glass in an electric kiln and crank up the heat. Whatever effect we want to obtain, it always has to be done by firing. And, of course, we like to take notes, lots of notes. The only way to repeat the same effect, or to improve it, or to never do it again, is to know exactly what was done.
The notebook where we keep track of our experimentation is called a “firing log”. Okay, now you get it… firing log… firing blog.. cute or corny, what do you think?

A Bientôt!!
